Shoe Tower

Today we had Karena and Tracey in class while Mr. Edwards (formal teacher) was out of the classroom. We have sooo much fun when Karena is here because we always do physical activities that don't involve our chromebooks, which is a good thing since we're ALWAYS on it.
Todays challenge was to make a tower using out shoes.  My group didn't win but it was a really funny and heart stopping activity. What my group found challenging was balancing the shoes on top of each other and figuring out how we could use EVERY part of the shoe to help our shoe tower( including the shoe laces etc). What we did extremely well in was deciding which shoes should be at the bottom, and which would work best at the top. I was honestly really impressed with the creativity of my group and also the respect when bringing up their ideas to contribute in making the tower. We had so much fun.

Positive, Thoughtful and Helpful

Today, James came in to our class and taught us about what makes a good blog comment.
It had to be Positive, Thoughtful and Helpful. I chose to comment on Room 4 from Wesley Primary's blog. They were learning how to say the Samoan alphabet.

History

From this investigation, I can see that I spend MOST of my time on my school mail, and because I'm at school most of hours of most days, and most of my school work is done on google docs, google docs comes up a lot. I was VERY surprised to see pinterest in small letters as I KNOW for a fact, that I spend most of my time on pinterest either laughing or crying at the interesting posts. I'm on it A LOT of times.... even when I'm supposed to be doing my school work. This lesson with James was very interesting.

Homework Center

This is my inquiry groups project presentation. We noticed that not many students in our class do not complete their homework on time so we decided that we should do something to help increase the number of people that do their homework. So we did a bit of investigation and found that there are causes for majority of the class such as, they need help, they don't have internet at home or even the fact that they are too lazy and having people doing it together with them would help a lot. I am very proud of my group for coming with such an idea and we organised almost everything.

WHAT MAKE S A GOOD BLOG COMMENT?

Created with Padlet

Today James cam into Room 9 and taught us about what makes a good and positive comment.
He showed us a video that was made a few California students with the help of their teacher.
The children took turns talking about tips that personally helped me a lot. I listened carefully to what they were saying and even their pet panda gave excellent advice.

After watching that video, I know that there is going to be a massive change in the comments that I make.
I have learnt to be more positive and also to be more specific for example, I would usually right about a post and say I really enjoyed reading your post or watching your video. Keep it up and never give up, but now from the video I would probably say something like, 'that video was very impressing' or 'I love your post, especially the way that you put the photo collage together'. Then I might ask a question relating to the post that shows that I really did enjoy reading or watching their post.

I can honestly say that personally, the video that children younger than me made is actually going to change the way that I write a comment for next time. James has been very helpful in this session. It was amazing. Now I can look back at my comments and be proud of what I have written.

High Jumping

Now I personally find high jumping fun but difficult but GUESS WHAT... we actually have a coach named Andy that comes once a week to teach us how to run, JUMP, and throw!
She made it a lot easier for me to understand and I think it's cool to share it with everyone.
So here it is! Comment down below if you also find high jumping difficult for you!

Glass (visy)

Images by: http://bydletespokojene.cz/  and    http://forum.clubedocafe.net/

Check out my cool poster about Glass.
May Road School, Room 15 were visitors to visy recently, because we have been studying recycle.
Visy is a recycle station and we learnt a lot about the process our rubbish goes through.
We also learnt what to put in our recycle bins and what not to put in our recycle bins.
We learnt a variety of different facts, for example
1. Keep the ids on all bottles being recycled
2. Not to put plastic in the recycle bin
and many other things.
Have you been recycling the right things?
Check out the poster on the other pupils in our classes blogs and think about recycling.
Comment below about a fact that you've learnt.

Physical Education (sports)

PHYSICAL EDUCATION I feel most proud of my Basketball Playing this year because it is my favourite sport and I was able to do most of the tricks the coach taught us, sometimes without even trying! From the Basketball lessons, I have learnt the different signals that the ref does when something happens and also how to do all those awesome tricks. The most important skill that I have learnt was how to shoot the ball because I used to shoot the ball the way the netball players did. I also learnt the different types of bouncing. The two most challenging skills that I have tried to succeed in was spinning the ball around on my finger and also bouncing the ball in between my legs. I really enjoyed basketball because it is my favourite sport.

Piano Presentation

Maths Problem Solving

Maths Problem Solving Mr Tia needed to share 35 meters of rope with four of his students to participate in a knot tying competition. How can we help him do this? 35 4 = 35/4 4 x 8 = 32 + 2/4 = 8 3/4 2/4 is 1/2 so: 4 x 8 = 32 + 1/2 = 8 ¾ This is a maths strategy that my student teacher Miss Lewis taught me. So after she taught me she gave me a problem to work out using the same strategy.

Moon Presantation

This Term we are learning about space. I learnt that the moon does not change shapes but it is actually the way the sun shines on the moon. The moon goes around the earth and the earth goes around the sun. But the sun stays in the middle which creates the different phases of the moon.
